So you want to save money on your relocation! Everybody does, don’t they? After all, a penny saved is a penny earned. Anybody who’s not into saving, can I see a raise of hands?
Whether you are shifting across the street or to another town, moving is going to hit your wallet hard. Things can get even more expensive if you are moving with kids. Someone truly said, “A father is someone who carries pictures in his wallet where his money used to be.”
We all agree that relocation is stressful and expensive. A lot of ideas should spin around your head when you want to relocate with limited budget. And a part of that is finding out ways to save on your move.
Here are few tips that will help you to cut the cost and still have a great move.
Once you know that you are moving, take some time to make a list of things that you will need to move. Calculate how long it will take you to reach your new home. This will not only help you determine when to leave, but also gives you enough time to unpack and get everything managed in your new place.
Moving sale helps a lot
If you need some extra money, why don’t you have a moving sale? You can sell some of your stuffs that you no longer need and collect extra cash for your move.
Be creative to save packing materials
Make sure to store newspapers or thick fabric items that you feel can be used for packing. Try being creative and find stuffs that are usually thrown away. Blankets, boxes and even beer cartons might be helpful. You got a reason to drink more beer, didn’t you?
Plan Your food before You Move
Snacks can get costly if you don’t plan ahead. Make sure to pack your lunch or plan for how much you will spend on food on the way to your new home. While you’re settling in, you may not have anything to eat in, so make sure that you have enough food for a day.
While you may be tempted to move on your own to save money, it may actually be better to hire movers. Loading and unloading your stuffs can be time-consuming, and without the help of experts, some of your valuables may be lost or damaged. When you hire a mover, you can stay organized and move with ease, but before you choose one, make sure to compare the moving costs.
